what is happening to the film industry right now?

You may be wondering, why the hell is this man back posting on this blog? Well basically, I have found myself taking the class ENC 2135 in college, and for one of the projects I must find a genre to share information about the topic I wrote my last essay on. Originally I was going to make a video essay, until a meeting with my professor revealed that a video essay would have to be around 20 minutes, and as someone who both doesn't own a video editing software at the moment and has a life, I decided to pivot. As my professor suggested I make a blog instead, I was hit with a wave of memories making this godforsaken website, as I also realized that this would be the perfect medium to share my findings. So here we are...

All of the information in this blog is a summary of my research done in my essay, so if you want a more detailed version, you can check it out here.

The film industry was doing incredibly well in the years leading up to the pandemic. We had all of these giant blockbusters coming out, such as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and Avengers: Endgame, which were both movies finishing movie series with hundreds of millions of fans. Then of course, everything went down the toilet when Covid came around. Ever since then, the industry has been completely different.

The biggest change in the film industry was how streaming services were used before and after the pandemic. It used to take movies several months to go from the movie theaters to streaming, but now it only takes a matter of weeks. This has led to movie theaters struggling ever since the end of the pandemic. Before the pandemic, the movie theater was one of the most common ways for Americans to spend their free time. However, since streaming services became the only way for people to watch new movies during the pandemic, people realized how convenient watching movies from home is. Not only was streaming cheaper than going to the movies ever was, but it allowed for viewers to watch whenever they wanted. Movie theaters also are known for their expensive concessions, which is actually how they make most of their money.

After the pandemic, people now just don't see the point of going to the movie theater anymore.
