A major part of this project is that we need to advertise it. On the media that is social. As per project directions (raise imaginary glasses), an official social media page and postcard advertisement for a film fest is required. (lower glasses) So it's probably a good idea to look at the social media pages for films to get some inspiration.
It's a good idea to look at socials for films in the same genre that I'm creating. Problem! I don't know what I'm doing yet! I do have a general idea of the genre I want however, so let's look at some films that have a similar mood and genre.
Baby Driver
It's actually a bit hard, because so many of my favorite films in the genre I'm going for are fairly old, and came out before social media was really around, so I had to dig a little deeper to find some good options. Baby Driver was a pretty good choice however, because it's a fun drama that doesn't take itself too seriously, which is a kind of film that I love.
My first thought was wow, because the account, titled babydrivermovie, posted 212 times advertising for the movie. That's a lot, but thankfully I did the math and the account was posting for over 450 days, so an average of a post every two to three days is very manageable. It appears that they started with a date for the teaser for the release of the teaser, followed by a countdown for the trailer.
They then advertised the release of the trailer on Youtube.
The account then started to advertise it's unique use of music in the movie, as it's such a big part of what makes Baby Driver special.
Then the account starts to show off the top tier actors in the movie, such as Kevin Spacey.
There's then a countdown for the release of the actual movie itself.
And the release announcement.
After the movie was released, they then advertised interviews and talk shows with the actors and director.
As soon as I have an full understanding of the plot, genre, and most importantly, title, I can begin the social media page for my film. It will start with just showcasing production, but very soon, once I have a grasp of my films mise-en-scene elements, I will begin to incorporate that into the account as well.
